The text below comes from our friends in Family Medicine regarding which patients are most appropriate for their inpatient teams. This is a nice reference to review before starting an UAMS admit shift.
"I've been told sometimes there's some unnecessary friction between our on-call residents due to not all people being aware of FM admission criteria.
To make it clearer and avoid frustration I made a short summary:
1. FM Ward team admits ALL established patients of FMC. We have no cap for these folks, we take all with smiles on our faces.
2. FM team cap is at 10. If we're below 10 we can accept 1 unassigned patient per 24 hrs starting at 07:00 AM each day.
3. Patients admitted in the past to IM team are NOT considered unassigned and will NOT be admitted to FM team even if we're not capped.
4. Patients seen in FMC as EWC (employee walk-in clinic) but otherwise being followed by IM or outside PCP are NOT being considered FM patient's unless they identify themselves as such.
5. Patients followed by UAMS Neighbourhood Clinic FM physician (Dr Shhreleekha Nallur, Dr Chuck Smith, Dr Jennifer Casey, Dr Senthil Raghavan) are being admitted to FM team but patients followed by IM physician (Dr Anna Kendrick, Dr Ye Olivia Xu-Cai) are being amditted to IM team.
6. Patients admitted to FM Ward team within the last 3 years will be readmitted to FM team even if they do not follow FMC as their PCP.
7. Patients not being admitted to FM team or seen in FMC within the last 3 years are no longer considered to be FMC patients thus treated as unassigned."
